MURAL CREATION PROCESS

nurseries || game rooms || living rooms || back yards || fences || storefronts || patios

My murals have been called “very large oil paintings done without oils” and I pride myself on the ability to create large scale artworks that carry the same expressive quality, glowing color, and interplay of light and shadow that define my painting style.

To create a sense of depth and space in your mural, I use photographic references and approach mural painting with the same attention to detail, composition and commitment to quality as I do for my oil paintings to create a vibrant and engaging custom mural for your space. I can create any mural you can dream up, but I especially excel at portraits, figures and landscapes painted in a realist and impressionist style similar to my studio work.

I deliver my projects on time and on budget. And I welcome frequent and open communication with my clients.

Initial Consultation

The initial consultation is free and can be done over Zoom or FaceTime.

Consultations are an important part of determining your cost. It allows me to better understand the scope of the project, but more importantly, it allows me to discuss your needs and your vision in real time. I want to design and paint a mural that you will enjoy and treasure for a long time. After the consultation, I will email a detailed estimate based on our discussion. When you approve my estimate, we move forward with sketches.

Sketches

I provide full color digital sketches for every single mural and will revise them 2 times if needed so you will be in love with the design. The digital sketch will not only show you the exact design you are getting, but I also digitally superimpose the sketch over a photograph of your wall/s so you can see the exact way it will appear in your space.

The non-refundable sketch fee starts at $150 per mural, but can be much higher depending on the scope of your project. This fee will be applied toward the total due at the signing of our commission agreement. If additional sketches are needed beyond two revisions, the fee is $150 per revision, and not applied toward the total due.

Commission Agreement

When you approve the final sketch, we move forward and sign a commission agreement, which thoroughly outlines your project and protects us both. You can rest assured that you will have the total, final cost in writing before painting begins so there are no surprises upon completion. Fifty percent of the total mural cost is due at the signing of the commission agreement, which reserves your project dates in my calendar and allows me to purchase supplies. The remaining 50% is due when your mural is completed.

Watch me paint my very first mural!

An awesome local filmmaker Tracy Pitts created a mini documentary film about this project. He asked great questions and captured my intuitive approach to painting very well. You can watch this wonderful 5 min “making of” video, see the process start to finish and witness me learn how to paint my first mural and figure it out it out as I go.
